You stand there, frozen. You hear Kylah gasp as she steps towards you. “Mom are you okay?” She asks frantically. You wiped your eyes of the years that were mindlessly streaming down your face and pull your daughter close. She was crying too. “I can’t believe he did that” Kylah said. “Me neither baby. I’m just sorry you had to witness it.” You continue to stroke her hair. “Are they gonna take him away from us?” She says between sniffles. You grab her shoulders and push her up so she can look into your eyes. “No, no! Of course not. He just made a mistake. It was out of impulse. I’m sure that your dad is gonna kick his ass but that’s about it” you say. She smiles and chuckles and leans back into your arms. When she can’t see your face anymore, your smile falls and your face turns worrisome because you really didn’t know the answer to Kylah’s question. We’re they gonna take him away from you? You kiss the crown of Kylah’s head, thankful to have such a wonderful daughter. She could be hanging out with her friends or hooking up with her boyfriend but she chose to stay here and help you. She lead you to the bathroom to clean the blood off your legs. You had just put a bandaid on your leg when you heard the door click open and closed. Then you heard footsteps on the stairs. Your husband comes into the bathroom and snakes his arm around your waist and kissed your cheek. You smile as he whispers “He wants to apologize.” You nod and your son comes into view. “I’m sorry Mom. That was a total dick move and it was stupid and I didn’t mean it and I feel like an idiot and I’m really sorry.” You could tell he was choking back the tears. “I know you are.” Zayn releases you from his grasp and you embrace your son. “I love you Mom” he says. “I love you too” you reply, taking a step back. “But you are grounded for a month for drinking.” He smiles. “Okay.” He gives you a last hug before running off. Zayn hugs you again. “We’re such good parents.”
